Pro Performance® Team Member Brad Gillingham Named to IPF Hall of Fame
Hardcore powerlifter earns sport’s highest honor
Brad Gillingham, professional powerlifter and GNC Pro Performance® team member, has been inducted into the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) Hall of Fame.
Gillingham is the 13th man in the world to ever receive this high honor.
“This is truly an amazing achievement for Brad,” said Mike King, manager of consumer promotions and events at GNC. King works with Gillingham as part of Team Pro Performance, a group of top-ranked athletes serving as spokespeople for GNC’s Pro Performance product line.
“Brad’s dedication to the powerlifting sport – and perhaps more importantly, drug-free athletics – has made him one of the most respected powerlifters in the world,” he said. “He is an exceptional individual who goes above and beyond to live by the IPF’s high standards, as well as GNC’s high standards and its strong commitment to healthy living. We are extremely proud of him for this achievement and all of his accomplishments.”
Gillingham also won the overall 40+ Champion of Champions award at the 2006 IPF World Masters Championships held Oct. 7-11, 2006, in Killeen, Texas. There he triumphed with a world record total of 1,047.50 kg (2,309.34 lbs) and a Wilks score of 580.21. Wilks scores take into consideration a lifter’s gender and body weight to determine his or her relative strength, rather than absolute strength, since larger athletes will naturally be able to lift more than smaller athletes.
The IPF voted to induct Gillingham into its Hall of Fame November 5 at the IPF Congress in Stavanger, Norway. According to its Web site, the IPF’s Hall of Fame aims to honor members who have made an outstanding contribution to the sport at an international level, through both lifting achievement and service.
The IPF also adheres to a stringent drug-free requirement: To be inducted into the Hall of Fame, an athlete must never have been involved in or suspended for drug use in his entire lifetime.
